Something Quiet Just Happened. And It Matters.

While headlines were (rightfully) focused on Iran and global instability, something happened quietly on the domestic front.
The Senate released its version of the budget reconciliation bill and it did not include the SNAP cost-sharing requirement that had advocates across the country sounding the alarm.
Why? Because the provision was deemed to violate the Byrd Rule, a technical rule with real-life consequences.
Translation: for now, states like North Carolina aren’t being handed a $700 million shortfall to make up for what the federal government would cut.
It’s a moment of relief. But not victory.
Because this wasn’t taken out due to moral clarity or public outcry — it was removed on a procedural technicality. And that means the push to cut SNAP isn’t over, just delayed.
We need to keep paying attention. Keep organizing. Keep telling the truth about what happens when safety nets are removed.
And we need to remember that sometimes the biggest wins happen quietly, behind the scenes, while the world is watching something else.
