When federal decisions threaten programs like SNAP, the impacts don’t stay in Washington.

📅 The House passed the budget reconciliation bill on May 22, 2025. Now we are watching the Senate prepare to vote.
As we wait for the Senate decision, here’s what’s at stake:
Every federal dollar cut creates a real gap in North Carolina. Communities, nonprofits, food banks, clinics, faith groups, and local governments are already struggling and absorbing the strain of rising demand in real time.
Food policy is not abstract. Choices in Washington shape access on our streets, in our pantries, and across our tables. The debate is not about dependency. It is about capacity. When federal support is pulled back, communities are not less dependent. They are simply left with fewer resources to meet the same, growing needs.
This is why food policy matters and why we stay engaged at every level.
